Agricultural Terrain

On the 230 hectares of agricultural land in the domain, arcenciel aims to specialize in three fields:

• grape production
• fodder crops
• added-value crops

arcenciel wishes to gain a solid agricultural experience and aims to develop demanding practices in preserving the environment and offering high quality production. The main goal is to develop a new, innovative agricultural concept, one of performance and reproducibility, so as to become a reference in the bekaa, with the objective of going from traditional agriculture to more practical and sustainable agriculture.

The domain works to obtain certification and to meet the most stringent of standards. The acquired experience will be transmitted to producers in the region through specialized cooperatives and to producers across the country through other arcenciel centers. The created cooperatives allow the development of high-quality agriculture and the creation of public programs to support independent producers.

Viniculture 

Viniculture is the main crop culture in the region, due to being historically developed by the Jesuits. The grape is intended primarily for the production of wine, a flourishing sector in Lebanon. The grapes are sold to neighboring wineries such as Ksara and Clos Saint-Thomas. The domain currently produces 15% of the Lebanese wine grapes and is positioning itself as a major participant in the wine industry.

Innovative crops

arcenciel developed new innovative crops at the domain in order to set the exemple in the Lebanese agricultural sector. New crops of high value such as greenhouse cultivation (hydroponics) and fruit cultures of high efficiency. This disposition aims at acquiring know-how and skills of high level to qualitatively develop agricultural practices in Lebanon. In parallel, a project in bio pesticides production, associated to independent producers, supports this approach.

On the other hand, the fodder branch is found parallel to the dairy sector to ensure a healthy, well fed herd in accordance with innovative, environmentally and friendly practices.

On a global perspective, arcenciel tries as much as possible to modifies the equipment at the domain to reduce negative environmental impacts: the reduction of chemical fertilizers, use of bio pesticides, use of solar energy and the rationing of irrigation (introduction to drip drop irrigation, restoration of water canals, etc.).
